Join me at GURT (Georgetown University Round Table on Languages and Linguistics) in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, March 8, 2026, 9:30–10:00 AM for my talk:
“Writing systems as core linguistic training.”
I’ll be arguing that writing systems should be part of the core linguistics curriculum, not a niche add-on, because they make questions about representation, structure, and learning unusually concrete, and they connect directly to how linguistics is taught and applied beyond academia.
GURT 2026 is themed “Futuring Linguistics: Content, Curriculum, and Careers,” bringing together scholars and practitioners to think seriously about what linguistics should look like next. Hope to see you there.
