Polozhenie: A Tribute to 2020-2023

2020–2023, a tribute to a surreal time. First, the COVID pandemic: everything shutting down, existential fear, complete disruption. Then, suddenly, catastrophe turns into opportunity. Now we are back home, back to the previous life, our true selves, after years of living abroad. It takes time to get used to our old shoes and to think that everything else was just a dream. We are back where we once loved, laughed, and protested. Then, one cold morning, snow everywhere, there is war. How could that have happened? Or were we not talking about its imminence for months before? The new old home is lost, everything is lost, exile, going around the world. Since then, we have lived multiple lives. A bit remains in Maçka Park, a bit on the Jaffa boardwalk, a bit here, a bit there, and it is like this until now. Suddenly, it’s 2023, wandering is over, and the crisis is replaced by the numb calm of New Jersey.

I split the original narrative into four videos, each highlighting a part of this journey. Part 1 is homecoming, culminating in Part 2, a single moment that zooms in on it. Part 3 is wandering. Part 4 is reconnecting with our pre-war, pre-pandemic selves, and, of course, New Jersey.
